Everyone is invited to come hang out at our Annual Fall Harvest Party. Let’s get together and celebrate another great harvest (our seventh!). This year’s party will be held at Campo Fina in Healdsburg on October 6 from 2-5 PM. Highlights include a first-ever lightning round bocce competition with a badass trophy for the winning team (hint: you can drink from it). Food will be served from Campo Fina’s awesome lineup of great snacks and small bites. Le Club Members: you will have the opportunity to pick up your Fall shipment, and don’t forget to bring your key! Wines will be available for tasting and purchase. Tickets are FREE, but they are limited, so clear the calendar and RSVP today!

Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir VDK leaps from the glass with fragrant pomegranate, wild strawberries, raspberry leaves and rhubarb notes plus hints of roses, cinnamon stick and forest floor. Medium-bodied with gorgeous elegance and bags of finesse, the palate is filled with fragrant red fruit layers and a silken texture, finishing with great freshness and on a lingering mineral note. 48 cases were made.

2014 La Pitchoune Winery • Pinot Noir Van Der Kamp Vineyard

The 2014 Pinot Noir Van Der Kamp Vineyard is pale to medium ruby-purple in color and delivers an intensely scented nose of crushed cranberries, redcurrants and Bing cherries with nuances of lavender, Provence herbs, tilled soil and black tea. Medium-bodied, fine, refreshing and elegantly styled, the palate possesses great polish and harmony, finishing long and perfumed. 98 cases were made.

2015 La Pitchoune Winery • Chardonnay Chenoweth Vineyard

The 2015 Chardonnay Chenoweth Vineyard offers pronounced apricots, pineapple and baking bread scents with wafts of orange blossom and ginger. Medium-bodied with vibrant stone fruit characters and a creamy texture, it finishes with a zesty lift. 150 cases produced.

2015 La Pitchoune Winery • Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
91 Points
The 2015 Chardonnay gives up savory struck-match notes over a core of apple pie, spiced pears and lemon curd plus a hint of marzipan. The palate is medium-bodied with great expression and plenty of vivacity, with a satiny texture and mineral note on the finish. 184 cases produced.

The 2015 Chardonnay Pratt Vineyard opens with ripe honeydew melons, poached pears and guava on the nose with touches of allspice and honeysuckle. The palate is medium-bodied with a satiny texture and great freshness, finishing on a spicy note. 150 cases produced.

La Pitchoune Winery Wins Best Premium Chardonnay in the Largest Competition of American Wines

The 2014 La Pitchoune Chardonnay from Chenoweth Vineyard was crowned the best premium Chardonnay ($45+) at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, being named Best of Class.

Founded in 2012 by Peter & Tracy Nielsen, La Pitchoune was established with the vision of creating beautifully balanced wines by combining the consistent and predictable weather of Sonoma with true old-word techniques. In a world filled with consumer demands to produce wines that can be enjoyed immediately, La Pitchoune wines are going against the grain and people are beginning to take notice.

The SFCWC Best of Class winners, are widely regarded as among the best wines in America. Due to the SFCWC’s size and the expertise of the judging panel, this competition is often considered the ultimate barometer for wine consumers to select and measure wine.

“The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is the definitive competition for American wines. To win a medal here – to stand out in a crowd of 7,000-plus submissions – is an enormous accomplishment for a winery,” said Esther Mobley, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine, Beer and Spirits editor.”

The persistent and steadfast vision of co-founder Tracy Nielsen, who also happens to be the Assistant Winemaker, is what has so quickly enabled La Pitchoune to rise to the top, receiving awards and praise from acclaimed press, industry peers as well as customers. “At La Pitchoune, the wines always come first. While others are racing to release their wines as quickly as possible, we prefer to nurture and age our wines. We only recently released our 2014 wines to the public for a reason, they are complex and nuanced and require some time in the bottle to really come into their own. The wonderful thing about receiving this recognition from SFCWC is that these wines are only going to get better over time”, continues Tracy.

La Pitchoune Master Winemaker, Andrew Berge, comments on the distinction: “Being named Best of Class is a great honor and the result of working closely with our wine-growers over a number of years to implement our sustainable farming practices that truly reflect the old-world style of wine that we aim to create at La Pitchoune. The 2014 wines demonstrate exceptional purity and balance unmatched by any vintage of recent memory that have provided an excellent foundation to really showcase what La Pitchoune is about”.

Aside from receiving the best of class distinction for the 2014 Chenoweth Chardonnay, La Pitchoune also received medals for the 2014 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, the 2014 Holder Vineyard Pinot Noir and the 2016 Chenin Blanc.

Peter’s Holiday Wine Pick: 2014 la pitchoune Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
This is my holiday pick because to me, this is the “classic”. This wine is a true representation of what La Pitchoune is all about. Awesome with mushroom pasta or absolutely fantastic just paired with some good friends. What I really like about this stupendous wine is its balance and the way it magically reveals itself in layers as it hits your mouth. A winner who’s quality far exceeds the modest price.

Andrew’s Holiday Wine Pick: 2014 la pitchoune chenoweth vineyard chardonnay, Russian River
The holidays are full of indulgence and celebrations. For this time of year you need a WOW wine and the 2014 Chenoweth Chardonnay delivers. Served with fresh Dungeness Crab or roast pork and a Chanterelle mushroom sauce this wine will convert any of your ABC friends. The Chenoweth with its exceptional balance and staggering complexity confirms why Chardonnay is the Queen! I know a few bottles will be consumed at my holiday table this season. I suggest you grab a few for your table as well.

Brett’s Holiday Wine Pick: 2016 la pitchoune La Bombe Chenin Blanc, Merrit Island
My holiday pick is our latest release: Our 2016 Chenin Blanc - La Bombe. This wine represents a departure from “normal” for the winery, yet is right on target. Our first wine sourced from outside of Sonoma. Why source from the Merritt Island AVA, you ask? Because it is simply the best place to grow Chenin Blanc in California. I grabbed a case of this before we released it, with the idea of sending it out to reviewers. It never made it out. For the last 3 months, I brought a bottle of this to every party I attended or hosted and it was a hit. And, at $22 a bottle, it’s a steal for the holidays.

Tracy’s Holiday Wine Pick: 2014 la pitchoune English Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
I love the holidays, and nothing says Christmas in a glass like our English Hill Pinot Noir. It has bright and lively aromas of red fruits highlighted by citrus that mingle with juniper, sumac, tobacco and cedar. And its cool site origins are apparent with the cranberry and pomegranate flavors. With this wine, we have pushed the boundaries of farming, and it is bound to cross a boundary or two at the dinner table as well. Like a boys choir singing Handel’s Messiah, this wine has an impressive harmony with pronounced length on the finish. If you want to bring a little piece of the Sonoma Coast home this holiday season, look no further than our English Hill Pinot Noir.
