The VDK represents the pinnacle of our extended-barrel aged Pinot Noir. Sourced from the very best batch of our Van Der Kamp vineyard this wine spends more than 24 months in the finest Burgundian oak barrels. Like all La Pitchoune wines, we pride ourselves with creating exceptional balance between the grapes, the soil, the vineyard location, and the barrels. The VDK turns it up to 11. This wine is for those who truly understand the concept of old-world balanced wines that will only get better with even more bottle-aging.
95 Points - Robert Parker/The Wine Advocate
"Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir VDK leaps form the glass with fragrant pomegranate, wild strawberries, raspberry leaves and rhubarb notes plus hints of roses, cinnamon stick and forest floor. Medium-bodied with gorgeous elegance and bags of finesse, the palate is filled with fragrant red fruit layers and a silken texture, finishing with great freshness and on a lingering mineral note".
This is the brother to our Van der Kamp Vineyard bottling and represents the confluence of our experimental nature and passion for tradition. The wine in these two bottles comes from the same source, but each has taken a different path and not surprising, each has developed its own individual character.
The wine for both of these bottlings was racked to tank as a whole in June 2015 and then gravity fed back to barrels for another two months before being racked to tank again as a whole in August 2015. At this point two barrels were gravity filled from tank to age for another 12 months to be bottled in August 2016 under the VDK designation. Given the stark difference in storage vessels from August 2014 to August 2015 the wines have developed into a contrast of flavors and textures we could not be more excited to share.
It is our recommendation to open this wine along side our Van der Kamp Vineyard bottling to experience the difference in aging technique for yourself.
